Cancellation means longer season for SYTYCD

As previously reported, the “So You Think You Can Dance” results show was cancelled by Fox, but now it sounds like that could lead to a longer season for the show.

“We wanted to get a few more shows on over the summer,” said Fox Entertainment Chief Kevin Reilly. “We also wanted to smooth out our summer so we don’t stop early and then have these dead weeks leading up to the season.

“It wasn’t really like we wanted to reduce the total number of hours. In fact, we wanted to figure out how to spread it out over the summer, which is now what we’re doing.”

It’s apparently never going to be clear why these decisions are being made about the dance competition show, but Reilly claims it’s all for the better.

“I actually think that by compacting the two shows together, it’s going to actually juice up the format a little bit,” he added.

SYTYCD results show gets canceled

“So You Think You Can Dance” creator and producer Nigel Lythgoe tweeted that Fox has decided to drop the results show for the show set return in May.

“#FOX have cancelled the results show so I will have to change the format of #SYTYCD,” Lythgoe tweeted. “At least we have another season at the end of MAY.”

It would seem the only way to announce the bottom two and to eliminate a contestant would be during the beginning of the following week’s episode. At any rate, Lythgoe seems to still be in good spirits.

“We’ll do our best to find some great talent starting next week in Atlanta,” he later tweeted. “I’m certainly not mad at FOX they have supported #SYTYCD FOR 9 seasons. With the help of Mike Darnell I think we have some great new ideas.”

SYTYCD Fav Alex Wong Auditions For American Idol

American Idol

Alex Wong‘s hopes of return to SYTYCD last season may have been derailed by his injury, but that doesn’t mean it’s the end of his FOX reality TV relationship.

American Idol fans were alerted via Twitter by executive producer, and SYTYCD judge, Nigel Lythgoe that Alex Wong had just completed an impressive audition:

Wow, Alex Wong just auditioned for #AmericanIdol. The boy has a good voice.

Nigel sent this message at the same time that he was in New Jersey for the last of the American Idol 2012 auditions. If this was the same audition event Alex attended then that means he wouldn’t have performed for the real suite of judges (Steven, JLo, and Randy) but I’m guessing he’ll have been good enough to earn a return when the callbacks take place.

Could Wong make it on to Idol this season? We’ll know more in January!
