So You Think You Can Dance 2011 Results – The Winner Announced!

So You Think You Can Dance 2011 winner

So, after three months of dancing their little feet off, one of the Top 4 will be named America’s Favorite Dancer tonight on So You Think You Can Dance Season 8.

After last night’s finale, it truly could be anyone’s game.  The Top 4: Melanie, Marko, Sasha and Tadd all had their incredible moments as well as their weak points.  So, it’s up to you, America, who did you say was your favorite dancer?  Let’s find out.

We started with an awesome, powerful opening number featuring the original 16 top dancers along with the Top 4.  And it was a Sonya Tayeh routine that was really enjoyable.  I’m happy.

Tonight’s judges were a conglomeration of all the biggest, brightest, weirdest and most involved choreographers of the season : Lil’C, Robin Antin, Tyce Diorio, Sonya Tayeh, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, the Queen of Scream, Mary Murphy and Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe.  I was impressed and quite blown away by Nigel apologizing to the guys especially, but all the dancers for his insensitive comments last night.  That shows tremendous grace and humility.  Probably what makes him a great Executive Producer.

The judges had the opportunity to require command performances of their favorite routines of the season.  Color me happy because I am hoping to see the sexy husband and wife routine by Sasha and Twitch, the Jailhouse routine featuring Ashley, the one where Melanie takes that running, diving leap into her partner’s arms, the Melanie & Marko kiss routine, the Melanie & Marko cheating routine where she rips his clothes off and a few others.  I wish I could quickly and honestly recall them all – but I can’t and I hope it doesn’t matter to you guys.  Just please, please let them call back all my favorite routines of the season.  (Does that sound selfish?)

From SYTYCD Castoff to Glee Cheerleader

For the the So You Think You Can Dance Season 8 “losers” out there, being cast off the reality dance competition isn’t the end of your career.

Heather Morris, better known as ditzy cheerleader Brittany on Glee, was booted from the show in Season 2. This was revealed during the finale last night in a clip of this season’s top 4 interviewing the cast of the Glee 3D movie.

Morris was asked about her SYTYCD audition, to which she answered it didn’t turn out well.

Morris auditioned for Season 2 along with friend and top 20 contestant Ben Susak, but was cut at the Green Mile with a 3-2 vote.

It appeads Morris has been “connected” to SYTYCD alum for some time, with Too Much To Tivo finding a picture of her with favorites like Travis Wall and Lauren Gottlieb.

So You Think You Can Dance 2011 – Finale Performance

Okay you guys, seriously, how can we be watching the Finale Performance of So You Think You Can Dance Season 8 already?  It seems that the season just began.  What are we all going to do with our Wednesday and Thursday nights after this week?

Tonight the dancers danced four routines; solos, with All-Stars and with each other in a special test of style and endurance .  The winner receives $250,000, will have his or her photo on the cover of Dance Spirit Magazine, star in the Gatorade G-Series ad campaign and will be crowned America’s Favorite Dancer.

Tonight’s Guest Judges were Emmy Award-Winning Choreographer and Director, Kenny Ortega and Katie Holmes.  Yes, I said Katie Holmes.,  The actress.  The wife of Tom Cruise.  What the heck does she know about dancing?  What qualified her to be a judge on the Finale?  (Turned out she was a big fan of the show and was just there to say sweet positive things to each of the dancers.  Isn’t that nice…?)

MARKO & MELANIE kicked off the finale with the season’s first Disco choreographed by Doriana Sanchez (Can you say eXCiTeD?!!)  I personally happen to love Disco, but this performance left me a little flat; which seems impossible considering these are my two favorite dancers.  For the first time this season, I felt that Marko may have had a bit of a struggle with the lifts.  Mary and Nigel confirmed what I was thinking.
