Alex Wong Unlikely To Compete In SYTYCD 2011

More signs are emerging that classically trained ballet dancer Alex Wong  will not compete in Season 8 of So You Think You Can Dance as previously suspected.

Too Much To Tivo revealed that Wong was spotted performing during Fox’s upfront event held in New York on Tuesday. Wong’s appearance on stage with other former SYTYCD alums, as well as recently eliminated American Idol contestants, could be seen as a clear indication that he has declined Nigel Lythgoe’s offer to come back to compete.

But at the very least, TMTT says it looks like Wong has recovered from the injury that disqualified him from Season 7.

For more on Wong’s whereabouts, check out Alex Wong unlikely to compete, at Too Much To Tivo.

So You Think You Can Dance 2011: Dancers To Watch

So You Think You Can Dance 2011 premieres on May 26, but before the season starts we are keeping an eye on a few dancers.

SYTYCD season 8 promises some familiar faces, former reality show contestants and siblings of some SYTYCD alum. Too Much to Tivo has put together a list of who they’re expecting to see return to the stage this season.

Ryan Ramirez, a protege of Mia Michaels, was cut during Season 7’s Green Mile and according to OMG Dance, may have finally made it into the top 20 this year.

It is rumored that American Juniors finalist, Morgan Burke, has auditioned for Season 7. All grown up, can Burke dance as well as he sang as a lad?

Who are you anxious to see return to So You Think You Can Dance this year?

Check out the full list of potential SYTYCD Season 8 contestants at Too Much To Tivo.

Cat Deeley Discusses So You Think You Can Dance 2011

The premiere of So You Think You Can Dance 2011 is less than four weeks away and to help get ready for the new season Cat Deeley, the show’s host, spoke with reporters to help set the mood. Deeley provided a little insight to what we can expect this summer and why the show should continue to be very successful.

When asked what style of dancing would stand-out this summer Cat didn’t hold back:

I think everybody is quite proud of the hip-hoppers and breakers this year, because what they’ve done is they’ve learned from the previous seasons … because somebody who isn’t necessarily technically-trained, it’s quite a big thing to kind of turn around and go as a breaker where you’ve learned your moves from either watching YouTube or MTV or music videos or even just from your friends.

With the news that Mary Murphy is back on SYTYCD that topic had to come up. Cat is like most of you and is ready for the screaming and yelling from the judges table to be back in full force:

To be perfectly honest, I can’t wait. Mary has this enthusiasm that is completely infectious, and she’s just very positive. She puts a very positive spin on it. She doesn’t take any rubbish from Nigel, and I think we kind of missed her a little bit on the panel. So I’m so glad that the hot tamale train is rolling back into town.

Cat even gave a little advice on what dancers will have to do to win So You Think You Can Dance 2011:

They have to be able to pick up other styles. There are lots of people that have maybe auditioned in the past for the show, have taken away the constructive criticism and gone, “OK, well if I’m a breaker, I’m going to put myself in a couple of ballroom classes, and I’m going to investigate that and see how far I can get.” Quite often, we’ve had people take the criticism, come back and then go much further on.
