Tonight’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance 2011 was even better than last week’s show.  Last week I was a tad underwhelmed with some of the talent, but this week there were dozens of really great dancers.  Chyna Smith was one of my faves  – I loved her dancing itself as well as the fiery routine, which happened to be choreographed by all-star Allison Holker.  And B-boy Tadd Gadduang had awesome musicality.  He captured nearly every single beat of his music with a different pose or move.  Toward the end of the show, Jess LeProtto caught my eye with his jazz routine.  He only got better in the choreography rounds, and I’m relieved that the judges passed him through to Vegas.

Also in tonight’s show we saw some unique dance styles.  Samara “Princess Lockeroo” Cohen introduced a style of dance she calls “whacking.”  (Did I spell that right?)  I’m not even sure if this is a real style or one she invented, but it was pretty cool to watch.  And another unusual but impressive audition came from Mary Kate Sheehan, who showed off some powerful Irish step dancing.

Oh, and I’m almost forgetting one of my most favorite parts of tonight’s show – Mary Murphy was back!!!  She was keeping things a little more subdued, though – no crazy Mary screams tonight.  Still love her, with or without those screams.

The next show will cover L.A. auditions…looking forward to it.
